This file provides you with directions on how to use Note. To find out what Note is and how to pay for it please read ‘Note -- Read Me’ installed with this program.
This file is divided into several areas - Setting Up, Chatting, Collaborating and E-Mailing. The first section describes how to set up your computer to use Note fully. The following sections describe how to use various parts of Note. An Apple Guide file for Note is very likely to be coming in the future, keep checking the Note home page at:
Once you have installed Note there are some more minor things that need to be done before you can use Note. Simply follow these steps.
1. Open the Control Panels in the System Folder on your Hard Disk. This is also available under the Apple Menu Items folder.
2. Open the Sharing Setup control panel in the Control Panels folder.
3. Enter your name and a name for your computer in the boxes at the top. You can also enter a password, but this is not required. The computer name is the name that everyone will on the network, so it is a good idea to make the name reflect the owner.
4. Click the button labelled “Start” under Program Linking at the bottom of the window. If there is no button labelled “Start” but a “Stop” button instead, don't worry everything is as it should be.
5. Close the Sharing Setup control panel.
6. Open the Users & Groups control panel in the Control Panels folder.
7. Double-click the “<Guest>” icon.
8. Make sure the box underneath Program Linking is checked and then close “<Guest>” and Users & Groups.
There! That's it Note is ready to be used now. You could go on and read the following sections or you can try using Note yourself.

Conferencing
------------
After you have installed and set up Note you can use it to chat with other AppleTalk users. Read this section to learn how.
1. Launch Note and choose ‘New Conference...’ from the Collaborate menu.
2. A small window will appear that allows you to set a topic for the conference. This topic will appear in the title bar of the conference window.
3. The conference window will now appear.
Note conferences are invite only, this means that for someone to participate in a conference they must be invited in by someone who is already there. Anyone who is in a conference can invite anyone else to join. To invite someone to join, simply click the ‘Invite’ button and then double-click the name of their computer in the window that appears. The names will take some time to appear, due to the speed of an AppleTalk network.
Once there is more than one person in the conference, to say something simply type what you want to say and click the ‘Send’ button. As you are typing it will appear in the Comment: box.
The ‘Save’ button will allow you to save the transcript of a chat session to a text file. This is useful for taking minutes or remembering what someone had to say.
The ‘Message’ button allows you to send a private message to anyone using Note on your network. Simply type your message, select the user in the Users list to receive the private message, and click the ‘Message’ button. Although the contents of the message appear in the transcripts on both the sender and the receiver’s computer, only they see the message.

1. Launch Note and choose ‘Message...’ from the Collaborate menu.
2. Type your message.
3. Click the ‘+’ button and select the user who this message is intended for. You can use this button multiple times to send the message to multiple users. You can also select a user in the Send To: list and click the Trash button, if you change your mind about sending them the message.
